obama will take the official oath of office. it's a private ceremony being held at the white house. as mandated by the constitution. new video in this morning shows the president and vice president joe biden at a wreath laying ceremony at arlington national cemetery. but tomorrow. the big celebration happens. a second, public swearing in ceremony. which we will carry live. there have been a thousand details for organizers to consider. here's kron four's catherine heenan with more. >> catherine: a few facts about how these crowds will be handled. the u.s. military will be helping park police for the first time ever. the secret service will be working with 57 federal and local agencies. a new app is designed to keep people from getting lost or stuck in overcrowded spots -- which happened in 2009. there's continued concern over whether there will be enough porta-potties. also - a new pastor has

been chosen to give the benediction. unlike the first choice - luis leon supports same sex marriage. the estimated cost - about 40-million dollars. the tradition is almost as old as the country itself. this is teddy roosevelt's parade in 1905. and as the years went by.the ceremonies become more and more tightly controlled and choreographed. this years inauguration committee had 432 staff members. nothing is left to chance - they're rehearsing the swearing in - using stand- ins for the first family. a tightly controlled secret - where the president will get out and walk part of the parade route. it's become an expected part of the inaugural parade. and we now know the president's 'playlist' of performers includes katy perry, beyonce, usher, stevie wonder and john legend. among the high school students invited to the parade. the iowa drill and drum corps the first family liked 'so' much last time -- they're invited back. and a new term means a new portrait - by white house photographer pete souza. here's the old one from 2009. the new one shows the

president with a bigger smile.despite what could be the rough waters ahead. catherine heenan, kron 4. >> i, joe biden.... >> vice president joe biden has been sworn in to a second term. the 70-year-old took the oath of office this morning from supreme court justice sonia sotamayor. the swearing in was a private ceremony at the u-s naval observatory. plenty of bay area representatives will be in washington for the inauguration. that includes the mayors of san jose, san francisco and oakland, who are already at the capitol for the u-s conference of mayors. they're all extending their stay to witness president obama take the oath of office. and as we mentioned, kron four will carry tomorrow's public ceremony live. its scheduled to start at 8- 30 monday morning. and we'll also have the inaugural parade live on our 24-7 bay area news channel - starting at 10-35.

a developing story out of the east bay this morning. where there's been a fatal shooting outside the bayfair bart station in san leandro. police say a 40-year old man was killed. and a woman was also hit by gunfire saturday afternoon. authorities expect the woman to recover. the attack happened in broad daylight, and authorities want to reassure transit riders about their safety. >> we are always concerned whether or not anny shooting happens, on bart property or not. this is not a typical occurrence. >> police have detained one suspect in the shooting. they're also reviewing interviewing witnesses. >> now to the big showdown between the niners and the kickoff is at noon in atlanta. kron four's j-r stone joins us live from atlanta

of secondhand smoke... and some of them can't do anything about it. ♪ [ continues ] [ gasping ] >> police in san francisco are investigating the city's second murder of 2013. a man was shot and killed around 5-30 saturday evening. near fillmore and geary streets. the victim later died at the hospital. authorities say the suspect fired several shots at a black four door car. the shooter got away in a white or silver vehicle. he's described only as a black man, who was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt. >> in hayward, friends and family of a missing teenage girl were back out on the flyers. 13-year-old delicia moreno was last seen thursday morning taking her sister to school at burbank elementary. as she does everyday. alameda county sheriff's officials believe moreno ran away with 22 year old rubin polanco.

>> welcome backits been close to three years since the last mavericks surf contest was held in half moon bay. but now, the competition is on. the world's top big wave surfers are in half moon bay for the mavericks invitational surf contest. the window for mavericks opens today. 24 world renowned surfers will compete about a half mile off the coast. swells are expected to be 30 to 40 feet high with great weather conditions. mavericks requires waves to be at least 20 feet. thousands of spectators are expected to come and see the contest. there is one notable change this year. spectators are forbidden access to the beach or bluffs. that's because three years ago, spectators were injured when a rogue wave hit the stands. injuring dozens. instead, fans will watch the competition from a jumbo television screen set up at a nearby hotel. the weather conditions should look fantastic. as we

yesterday. the group in charge of the rally, "guns across america", says the event was intended to show lawmakers how much they oppose new gun control efforts. it also comes just days after president obama unveiled a new package of federal gun control proposals. >> a gun rally in pacifica this weekend attracting hundreds of supporters. kron four's jeff pierce spoke to people on both sides of the issue. (speaking through megaphone) >> this is were we draw a line in the sand. we are not going to back up we are not going to blink this is our right. >> reporter: hundreds of people who have felt threatened by the national conversation about gun violence in this country attended an event in pacifica saturday afternoon celebrating the 2nd ammendment. defiance to what they percieved as an encroachment of constitutional rights. >> i believe in the 2nd amendment, i was taught to obey the law and i'm here to >> the 2nd amendment we gotta have it. >> i'm not an nra member, i don't usually do these types of things i just feel i need to make myself heard a little bit >> reporter: beyond the rhetoric of anger and defiance there were those who felt the recent tragedy that has brought gun rights to the national stage >> i have children and i was appalled just like everyone else in this country about what happened in newtown but i really felt strongly about certain politicians, the president and other politicians and some of the gun control advocates manipulating the newtown tragedy for their purposes. a small contingent of those >> reporter: gun control advocates stood at the

in three different states. this is video from the dixie gun and knife show in raleigh, north carolina. two people were struck by shotgun pellets and were taken to the hospital. a retired sherrif's deputy also suffered a hand injury. authorities say a 12-gauge shotgun was discharged when its owner unzipped the case during a security check at the entrance of the show. two other accidental shootings happened in ohio and indiana. coming up on kron 4 news weekend new developments on the hostage situation. right now, let us get a live look outside of the mt. tam we will be right back.

special forces stormed the complex yesterday to end the standoff with the militants. algerian officials say at least 23 hostages and all 32 militants involved were killed. but they expect the toll to increase. meanwhile, the u-s state department is warning american citizens about the risks of traveling to algeria. the warning comes amidst the high threat of terrorism and kidnappings. >> we warn you this it is this is... gary video on camera! -- scarya man attacked an ethnic turkish party leader -- ahmed dohgan at a national conference in bulgaria. you see the attacker jumped on stage and pointed a pistol at dohgan -- a weapon most often used for target practice. witnesses say the attacker attempted to shoot the party leader, but the gas pistol apparently misfired. security guards wrestled the man to the ground, and police arrested him. he was also reportedly carrying two knives. >> despite facing charges in

the u-s, a new zealand entrepreneur is launching a new file-sharing website. american prosecutors say a man called "kim dot-com" enabled internet piracy on a massive scale with his old website "mega-upload." the site was one of the most popular on the internet. that was up until authorities here shut it down and arrested dot-com one year ago on racketeering charges. they're now trying to extradite him from new zealand to face those charges. meanwhile, dot-com says his new site is completely legal. coming up on kron 4 news weekend 49ers are swarming atlanta this live look at the san mateo bridge with plenty of sunshine and very little traffic.

assault allegations involving his crabtree. the alleged incident happened last sunday at a san francisco hotel. police say crabtree has not been detained or arrested. saturday, his attorney released a statement on the investigation. it says in part, "michael fully cooperated with the inspectors and will continue to do so throughout the investigation." kickoff is at noon today in the a-t-l between the niners and falcons. the winner of this game moves on to the super bowl. many 49ers fans are in atlanta getting tuned up for the big game. here's some of what they had to say. >> 49ers nation! rise up memo i keep hearing that expression rise up it is

as the nation prepares to swear in president barack obama for a second term. a big parade is planned tomorrow in washington d-c. here's a look at the parade route. it is scheduled to start in front of the capital building around 2:30 p-m on monday. the president will be escorted by sixteen floats as he makes his way along the one-and-a- half mile route. it includes passing by several landmarks including the national archives all the way to the white house. hundreds of thousands of people are expected to attend. president obama and the first lady kicked off inauguration weekend saturday with projects for the national day of service. the president spent the morning staining shelves with his wife at an elementary school in washington. meanwhile, vice president joe biden was with his family at the national guard armory, packing care kits for troops. the national day of service is meant for people to

volunteer their time to help others. in honor of dr. martin luther king junior. there was also a special inauguration event for the kids this weekend. the first lady along with daughters sasha and malia rocked out with hundreds of children from military families saturday in washington. the concert included performances by katy perry, usher and cast members from the t-v show "glee". and you'll be able to watch the inauguration ceremony live during the kron-4 morning news on monday. it will start at 8-30 in the morning. and we'll also have the inaugural parade live on our 24-7 bay area news channel - starting at 10-35. there are many ways in the bay area to celebrate martin luther king junior's legacy. here are just a few: a freedom train leaves the san jose caltrain station at 9-30 a-m. and heads to san francisco. riders can hear songs from the civil rights era and stories about dr. king. then at 10 a-m the free "make the dream real" celebration will begin at mc-clemonds high school in oakland. that's at 2-6-0-7 myrtle street.

>> welcome back. working crews in san leandro controlled a water main break that closed a roadway saturday night. the break lead to flooding on foothill boulevard. from carolyn street to manchester road. crews shut down the area while they worked to control the rising water. thanks to light traffic, they were able to act quickly. residents say the water main broke in the same location.eight years ago. >> scientists are testing a dramatic new treatment for

alzheimer's disease. they're called "brain pacemakers" to try and prevent memory loss. the treatment involves brain surgery, so that electrical wires can be installed in patients' skulls. they're hoping that tiny, constant jolts of electricity can keep brain circuits active for longer. right now researchers are trying the treatment on just a few dozen people. >> one father's plan to make his kids work for a puppy has become a global sensation. when these kids in massachusetts asked for a dog, dad said they could have one. the catch? they had to get a million 'likes' on facebook. once the page went up, it took less than 6 hours for the cordells to hit that million mark. soldiers in afghanistan and moms from lebanon all sent their likes and messages. though reaction has been positive, the cordells don't want to take risks with their kids privacy. >> "it's a little bit scary. i have about 20 close friends that are moderating the page and they are going in there and
